The History Department seeks to provide in-depth knowledge of the past as well as an understanding of the nature of historical change. Students are introduced to historical methodology and given preliminary training in research methods. The department aims to provide liberal education for all as well as training for professional research. They are encouraged to improve their communicative and analytical skills, to acquire a fundamental knowledge of world events and develop the ability to make effective presentations. Academic work includes lectures, tutorials and seminars. Students have access to the departmental seminar library as well as the main college library. Regular student evaluations are made on the basis of class & home assignments, tutorials, project work, quizzes as well as college and university examinations.

Our Objective:

The Department of History encourages teachers to be mentors and friends rather than teachers. Our faculty members guarantee the basic objective of quality education through interactive teaching, counseling, multi-criteria evaluation and constant feedback. Teachers are committed to evolve the method of learner centric education and students are encouraged to think independently to find their own solutions.

Co-Currivular Activities:

Students of the Department also participate in different types of cultural and co-curricular activities in college besides their regular academic schedule. Students also participate in different type of Seminar (National & International), Workshop, Project, Debate, Exhibition, inter-college, inter-university, state level and national level competitions. (1) We are successfully completed 32 Survey related Projects deferent area of District of Nadia, Murshidabad and North 24 Parganas Supervision till date on July 15, 2014 , by Asst. Professor Adhikari, P. (2) The Department organized two Audio-Visual Educational Programs namely (a) ‘Indian 2 National Heroes Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’ on Aug 20, 2013, (b) ‘A Girl Student and her Problem solving method’ on July 8, 2014. (3) The Department organized a Workshop ‘Preparation of TLM of History’ on Feb, 04- Feb, 11, 2014.

Creative Activities:

For overall development of students’ personality, the Department provides ample scope and sufficient motivation to the students in the field of academics, culture and seminars; exhibitions are regularly organized by History departments of the College.

Magazine:

The Department published two magazine every year and articles are contributed by students, researcher, professors and administrative staff. Wall magazines are also published monthly.

Journal:

The Department has future plan to published a International Journal for research.

Educational Tour:

Department organized an Educational Tour, every year.

Infrastructural Facilities:

The Department has one class room and well equipped seminar cum conference hall with projection facilities and audio-visual teaching aids

Museum -Cum-Archive:

Since its inception the department has been trying to develop a museum-cum-archive, which has now been started in a classroom and a good number of items of cultural importance have been collected, documented and displayed. The department gives emphasis on collecting materials which are directly connected with folk life. Already this museum-cum-archive has found mention in a number of books.

Audio-Visual Complex: 

The Audio-Visual Complex of the department has Slide Projector, Overhead Projector, Camera (Still Photo), different Audio Systems and other equipment used for audio-visual documentation and teaching.
